If you have the expertise and the passion to write a website, why not going offline and sell your expertise and passion? Selling means here: give training, give classes, give courses.

How to make money? How to get rich? ... What makes money is usually a good idea. Not just a good idea, but a good idea that with a lot of passion finds its way to the consumer.

If you say: a good idea, then you are talking making money with your brains. I don't mean this in the normal sense of making money with hard labour versus making money with a university degree. I mean: think out of the box and come up with an idea that nobody has had before. Remember the sell ads by the pixel? This not even graduated student is already making money by the million pixels he sold! 1 pixel for 1 dollar and he did it in less than a year: the best example of quick and easy ways of making money...!

Now if you are not as creative (like I am), but you do have something to teach: go and start giving training. All now depends on how your country's laws are made. Yet you don't need to have a masters degree to open your own classes about things people want to learn:

for a knowledge or skill they cannot learn in their neighbourhood (that's why private training comes to your house)

The fastest way to rank high in the search engine is ranking for a keyword-phrase nobody has taken yet. Now chance is big that nobody is looking for that keyword-phrase, so except for bragging rights, "fast" has no meaning here.

More realistic is to rank high fast for keyword-phrases "not too many" people are looking for.

Another way to rank high first is to feed the Search Engine spiders what they like (which is good content, and lots of it), and don't feed the spiders what they don't like (the so called spamming the search engine)

People still believe that there are free things out there... Yet nothing is free: all is done for a reason, and "free" has mostly a marketing reason. Free T-shirts have normally a logo of somebody on it, will be worn and seen by many, so it's kind of free advertising.

What to give away?

Whatever you have and doesn't cost you to much, preferably what costs you nothing. Here you need to be creative. See the Blog Value in my site bar:

It says that my website has a value of 22 dollar... It looks cute, it doesn't mean anything since nobody is buying my site... BUT:

it has a link back to whoever made this Blog Value thingy!

And here goes their Internet Marketing: I found the thingy useful and put it on my site, they had to create the thingy with some creative brainpower and very little overhead cost and tadaa: they have a link to their site!

Most common thing to give away these days are free e-books with lots of info and especially lots of links to your website.

We all know that SEO is about getting your page ranked high in the search engines. With Internet marketing, it is 1 way of getting more visitors to your website.

SEO: back to basics

Search Engines rank your page after reading your page. Your page is not read by humans, but by a computer program often called spiders. So search engine optimization is all about how the spiders read or don't read your pages...

Search Engines don't read my pages?

Yes, get alarmed: spiders are running around the whole Internet in order to rank pages... Compare how you read a newspaper: do you read from beginning to end? Of course not, you only have 1 day, so you browse over the newspaper. Same with spiders: the daily spiders browse around and take a quick glimpse at your website.

The "good news" is that there are slow spiders that do try to read "the whole Internet", but you can imagine, this takes a lot of time (we are now talking at least 1 month)

Now you have a nice blog like this one (self praise, big disgrace...), but spiders read the HTML code (see for yourself in the View - Page Source Code navigation button of your browser), and it looks like this:

Optimize for SEO: the spiders

Also called: "on page SEO optimization" because you can do it on your own site.

If you want the spiders to read your page, you have to get rid of all the mumbo jumbo. This needs a little bit of simple HTML knowledge, which you can browse for in your search engine.

Main things to know is:

get rid of all the "Style" mumbo Jumbo by copy-paste it in a separate style document

make sure that the most important information of your page is on top of the page (most logically your title...) So if the spider reads a bit of your page, at least he has read the main part!

Why is quick and easy ways to make money not "mumbo jumbo" page optimized?

Because I have the patience to wait 1 month to let the big spiders read my whole page and SEO for those. If every penny counts, then save 1 month of time with on page SEO optimization.

Name-cards are a daily part in people's personal marketing strategy.
You get somebody's name-card, you read the persons title like "CEO" or "Clown"... whatever it says...:

But the case is not what you know,

As always, your blog is your deep personal creation, and like that I don't want to interfere with that. I just give my personal interpretation about the SEO and Internet-marketing point of view.

Since you start your first post with :

I propose to set up Cochin blogs as a site for guiding people to good
hospitals, diagnostic centres and nursing homes here in Cochin. I also intend to set up pages (on this blog site) to explain sonographic techniques, images etc.,for the medical professionals and the lay person.

I would stick to this theme and post only related posts to it. Posts about Doctors do fit the theme, posts about free music, software and POPwebsites, could be easily ranked into another blog.

Cochinsblogs and making money

How can I make money with cochinsblogs if I have to remove the affiliate links to free music and software?

I know I said in a previous post: you can only make money if you start selling something. So that's rule number 1.

Now I add: I don't expect to see the fresh-eggs-selling-lady in the shopping mall selling her eggs.

Similar: selling the free music on a blog that's about hospitals and nursing homes seems like a fish out of water.

So try to sell something within your theme:

for affiliates: you need to spend lots of time to look for products that fit your theme, once you have these products, you are in business

for ad publishers: you sign up for contextual based ads: these contextual ads do the research part to fit in your theme and you are in business

What do people really earn on the Internet? If you know a public listed online company: you just read their annual statements: the revenue is high! But: they do have a big skilled workforce to back them up...

Be focused!

If you are a on your own, it is a different story.

You cannot expect to be a genie: you cannot be:

a master of SEO and

an incredible good salesperson and

a genius in writing HTML

and the most prominent internet marketing genie all in 1 person...

Most likely you do know a bit of everything and you love some parts more than others. Like me: I am a developer and I love to fine-tune HTML... yet fine-tuning HTML doesn't bring me any revenue!

So every second of your online business day: focus on how to get more revenue:

Lets tackle the "rich" first :

Lots of advertising and affiliates start paying you out when you reach 20 dollar to 100 dollar a month.

In other words:

set your bar
between 20 to 100 dollar a month in the first 6 months of your new online business.

If you set the bar too high, lot's of people just give up before they already started. It's like saying: I want to loose weight, but I want to loose 20 pounds a week... You have to go step by step and keep on stepping to be successful! Every pound gone is a pound of success. Every dollar earned is a dollar earned in success!

Now lets tackle the : "lots of visitors" :

set your bar
to reach 100 page impressions a day in the first 6 months of your new online business.

This is easier said than done, but this bar needs to be high all the time! You cannot sit back and relax when there are no visitors coming to your site.

Why start of with 100?

To set the bar and to be focused; you need visitors!!!

If you manage to get 100 visitors a day, you have a nice number to do statistics with:

if your affiliate program has the statistics conversion rate of 1%, it means that 1% of the visitors will buy the product. If you have 100 visitors a day, then each day you will sell 1 product!

So try to focus your efforts in getting at least 100 page impressions or 100 visitors a day in the beginning of your online business!

I can hear the genies amongst you saying: eh, 100 page impressions is much easier than 100 unique visitors...

Good! Whatever works for you! But:

set a bar you haven't reached yet and try to reach it.

As soon as you reach that bar, put the bar higher!

Now what? Look up for what? You think I am not smart enough to run my own business???

Relax and sit back! 2 people always know more than one. And the best people to learn about business ideas is from people that made it already big in the business. So big, that they are now retired and for the fun of it, just like to help out other people setting up their small business. And yes, they are completely free!

You find them at score.org : they are retired executives from sometimes really big companies who are just there to help you out.

Be serious with your online business before asking!

Don't flick up a website with 3 pages and start asking them how to make lots of money in your sleep.... Be serious with your online business: have an idea what you want to do, how small or medium you are expecting your online business to be. Built up a serious website in order to show them that you mean business. Make sure you cracked your head about a few things like HTML, selling something already or making little revenue, so they have something to built on.

Too small business for a big mentor?

Get yourself a mentor-blog like the one you are reading now. Bookmark it and come back once a week for new ideas!

Too small means: you can only afford 1 hour in a month to make your online business... Or you just started out and have no clue whatsoever...

In this case, you don't bother the big mentors, but you bother the smaller ones... the ones that can help you a bit here, and others that can help you a bit there. These people you find in blogs like this one, in forums and groups. If you start participating in bogs, groups and forums, you will see that the same people will answer questions from a certain difficulty level. The more you learn, the more you get onto their level and become cyber-friends. Then you move on for more difficult questions and another group of people or blogs will start getting familiar...

Once you feel that nobody can answer your questions anymore, then you are ready again for the big mentors.

It is just twice as easy when you can ask people for help, so you can spend your time on attracting more visitors to your online business.

Technology doesn't bring in money!

Keep things simple!

There is simply no money to be made in learning the nerds' technologies.

Money is made by driving traffic to your site and converting it into customers and money.

Because of this, you should spend no more than 10% of your time on technology issues. The other 90% of your efforts need to be focused on traffic and conversion.

When designing your website, keep your concept simple. Focus on creating a website that is simple to navigate and where the information is logically accessible. Don't waste your time with flash, whistles and other bells... (unless that is what you are selling of course...)

Create more than 1 site if you have more than 1 product

"Familybooksandbargains" was the name of 1 of the visitors of this Quick and easy ways to make money site.

Now...

You cannot promote 2 things in the same shop, unless you have a supermarket, ( and there they make sure to promote much more than only 2 items).

So focus 1 website on 1 product:

Why 2 websites? Because visitors love to browse on a website that is on topic when it comes to sales. People also love to browse on gossip site with 1001 topics, but there they browse for the fun of passing time, kind of window-shopping.

In the familybooksandbargains example: You want to convert your visitors into revenue: people wanting to buy family books, need to be focused 100% on family books. People buy books in a bookshop! People don't want to waste time in reading about bargains of all different kinds... (unless you have books on bargains, but then again we are talking books!)

We live in a fast society: give people what they expect to find, and they go away a happy customer!

What about a business plan?

I bet you read or heard about: you need a plan before you start a business. This is true! So the plan is the following:

Try part time for free and see:

start a free website now about your passion

sell affiliate products or advertising space

try to attract visitors (e.g. start following the step by
step instructions on Ranking high on search engine)

Give this a timeframe (e.g. 6 months), write down the amount of effort you put into your business and evaluate the amount of revenue that comes out. If after 6 months :

you reach a nice revenue (100 dollar is said to be nice for a complete new part time online business),

you still love what you are doing

then consider a more complex business strategy for your online business (and you have 100 dollar to re-invest...)

and the bag says

"ok, put this HTML code on your website and tadaa, you get ads from my bag!"

In other words: There are a few big advertising guys out there like Adbrite, Adsense, Chitika, Clicksor, eBay, MSN ads, Text-Link-Ads, Yahoo ads: you look for them in your favorite search engine, go to their website, sign up for free and depending on your choice and HTML skills, you are up and running with ads on your website.

The difference amongst these "make money with advertisement services" is:

customer service: some you can call, some you must email and seemingly only get an electronic answer

payment amount: some pay out when you reach 20 dollars of revenue, others pay out when you reach 100 dollars of revenue

website requirements: some tell you what your website may not show, some have a look if you reach a minimum amount of visitors

the ads shown: some ads mimic automatically the content of your site: the so called contextual ads

and the type of ad-revenue...

You earn advertisement revenue when:

somebody follows the link of the ad you show

somebody watches the page where the ad is on

every day the ads runs on your page

If you don't know where to start and you feel confident about yourself, start with Adsense: they are kind of the mother of all contextual advertisements and have the longest experience in providing you with ads that are very well related to the content of your website.

You need to know that Adsense is huge, so if you are a newbie, expect to be treated as a newbie when it comes to asking questions. Yet they do have a good newsgroup of people helping you out with a lot of your day to day Adsense questions.

If you like a more personal approach , then go for Adbrite. They are new but make up for that with having a telephone hotline.

Are you a salesperson? What is a salesperson? You are a salesperson if:

you are selling stuff for your profession

as a kid in school you loved to sell small things to get more pocket money

you roam markets and garage-sales, finding a bargain cleaning it and resell it

you just looooove sales

If one of the above applies on you, then consider yourself a salesperson. On the Internet, a lot of

salespeople end up as affiliates.

How to earn affiliate revenue

You earn affiliate income by:

selling or

promoting other people's products

through your own website and

collecting commissions.

Like any salesperson knows: if you are good and selling a lot, you can make a good income...

You also know that:

the salesperson selling houses earns a much higher commission than

the salesperson selling eggs on the market.

On the other had: the salesperson selling houses maybe has a few sales a year, where the salesperson selling eggs has a few baskets of eggs sold each day. This means depending on what you sell:

you earn a lot of small commission each day or

you earn a few big commissions month

Remember that in the beginning of being an affiliate: you are in the second group:

you only earn a few commissions each month if all goes well.

Knowing this, you need to give yourself at least half a year in order to evaluate if you are learning and earning! If you don't have this patience, you are not a salesperson and you better choose making revenue with advertisement as your "learn when you earn" strategy.

What affiliate products do you sell?

You sell:

what you are passionate about

what is "good in the online market"

what you obviously know inside out

What is good in the online market: do you buy a watch online? Not yet. Do you buy a book online? You might. That's why there is amazon.com selling books through affiliates and you don't hear about people selling Rolex watches online...

So start with products that are already successful. You eliminate the risk of promoting products that people may not want. In addition, your website keeps simple: the transactions with the customers are handled by the third- party site you affiliate yourself with.

Difficulty with affiliate products...

You are recommending a product, so you need to know your product. A good salesperson listen to his client and solves the clients questions with the possibilities of the product. I mean: do you buy something from a salesperson that cannot answer one single question about the product he or she is selling?

So if you are a salesperson: you need to do your homework: know what you are selling. This can be difficult as that sometimes means you need to purchase the item you are promoting yourself first. So be prepared to invest not only time but also money in the products you are recommending.

How to become an affiliate?

Making money as an affiliate requires a simple copy and paste of the HTML code provided by the third party you affiliate yourself with. Mostly it has a little picture with a link to the third party you affiliate yourself with. Like:
"To buy this item: click here"

Your visitors then reach the product you recommend on the third-party website. That is the first step, but:

you don't have any money earned yet and

your visitor left your site.

Now you have to sit and wait... If you told the truth about the product you were recommending, then this visitor could buy the product. Only when this visitor makes a purchase, your collect your commission.

Again, fast doesn't mean that the dollars come rolling in. Fast money means that the first cents are rolling in! Again: a teenager normally doesn't earn lots of money, so your teenager site wont earn much money either. But it can teach you real time what it takes to convert visitors into consumers.

Once you've learned the basics (and made some money), you can move on to:

creating or selling your own products

add more content on your website to attract more visitors or keep your regular visitors coming back

Also be aware: the big pooha about the Internet making lots of money is long over. Many start a website hoping to make quick and easy money... to find out that after a few weeks, the big money revenue doesn't come. After a year they don't see the point in re-newing their domain-name and give up...

Nevertheless you still see a lot of websites out here! And some of them are still making a decent income. Of course: if you have a massive staff backing up a website like CNN, that will bring in the big money.

But even if you are doing all by yourself: it can earn you a nice part-time income. All you need is:

a passion

enough discipline to put a certain amount of effort a day

A product or service: "something" that people want

The online technology to sell and deliver it

Traffic that brings visitors to your site

Converting those visitors into customers and money

Learning to make money online requires mastering each of these four elements.

However, the order and the way in which you learn these four elements is what determines your success or failure in making money online.

You just don't step out of bed and go to a shop, you put your clothes on, brush your teeth... all very logical.

Same applies to an online business: it is made up of simple steps that make up the whole business strategy.

Making money online is just like everything else in life: it's NOT a free lunch. You have to learn what works by learning fast what doesn't work. You need to be willing to invest the time and effort to study successful people and then do what they do, or even do better. Don't do exactly what others do. but learn from how they do it!

disadvantage: you can only rank high using people skills: providing the visitors that are looking for your site the exact content they expect to find for a high ranking website

SEO software

Most of the SEO software is in the first SEO category: trying to break the code of the Search engine. There is a lot of SEO software out there, but be aware of the disadvantages:

they have no guarantee that using them will get you ranked number 1

if the Search Engine feels he is scr#$&d by another software, he will make sure that it won't happen again and that the website ranking number 1 will be punished (thrown deep down or out the search engine)

I can hear you thinking: if it is so bad: then why is it sold in the first place? Because it is a quick and easy way to make money! Sell some SEO software, grab the money, try to update the SEO software for as long as you can, (ask extra money for the upgrade!) until you cannot beat the Search Engine anymore, or until you have bought your dreamhouse and all that comes with it :)!

Affiliate links are fairly easy to set up: the affiliate will give you the html code you need to add on your website where you want to make some more money.

Affiliate links are fairly quick found if you "blindly" add links to affiliates.

But...

The success of making money online is booming with the so called "contextual targeted ads".

To give you an example: read the affiliate I am trying to promote now for more than 3 months, and not 1 single cent did I earn here.

Withing 12 hours, I already got a second email from Google (listed at the bottom), but I am still puzzled...

They said I was not complying with the Terms of Service, but I don't see exactly where (as I don't advocate hatred, don't have adult content nor sell dubious stuff.)

Can comments in my blog be of such a kind that they can infringe the Terms of Service? IMHO, there were no such comments.

Yet since all my blogs except 1 blogs are gone, something must have caused it.

I am only 3 months using Blogger and got overexcited in the beginning: starting about 25 blogs. Managed only about 5 to keep active of which 1 very active, so I can imagine Blogger claiming back the unused blogs.

But then, why also claim back the active blogs?

I did get a warning 14th of june that a new blog was considered as spam. The strange thing is that "this spam blog" is now the only blog visible on my blogger dashboard. I wish that one got deleted. Now it is waiting for approval, so I cannot even delete it myself, quite ironic.

I am quite puzzled but happoy that Blogger is answering :)
