Name-cards are a daily part in people's personal marketing strategy.
You get somebody's name-card, you read the persons title like "CEO" or "Clown"... whatever it says...:




  • you accept the CEO's card because you need to do top business

  • you accept the Clown's card because you need a clown on your kids' birthday party



Consider the title of your web page as the name-card of your web page:

Trump: a Genius in branding and marketing



"Trump" is a great example of branding. You probably saw an elderly, therefore wise, man on the cover of books about making money...with a very strange, funny hairstyle like in the Amazon-affiliate-link above.


If you live in new York, you can see a helicopter with the word Trump on it, Trump Tower... the Miss Universe contest shows Trump, there is even some Trump ice out there...


Branding and the unconscious choice making


This is a typical example of Branding: the word "trump" is completely absorbed in your brain. So the next time you are in a hurry and need to by an ice-cream: as soon as your eyes see Trump ice, your hands will automatically choose Trump ice...

The strength in branding lies in the repeated sale or in simple words in the


"will you buy from me again: YES!" strategy.


Once you are happy with the product "trump", next time you need another product, you first go and have a look if "trump" sells it as well! Just admit: Trump ice doesn't sound inviting to eat if you never heard of Trump. But if you love Trumps Miss Universe, then Trump ice gets a whole different dimension...

"Cochin" is like "Trump": if it is the first time you hear this word, you won't be bothered much.


But the case is not what you know,


the case is:


that when you keep on hearing Cochin, Cochin, Cochin, you will one day make a choice to Cochin!


For those not living on this part of the globe, Cochin is a place in Kerala and that means we are talking India. So I have some kind of clue what I am getting.


Cochin all over


Like Trump Tower, Trump Ice... Joe has "cochinblogs" and "Cochin health care". So if you stick to Cochin as a theme, name your websites accordingly. Why? Because once I am trusting what I read in cochinsblogs, why not one day go to cochin health care: we all need a doctor one day...


What is your theme?


I go to cochinsblog and I see:




  • Joe Antony dressed up nicely,
    (so my brain says : as a respectable
    person's blog)

  • Click for free music
    (so my brain sees : FREE, and music, Joe is in the music business)

  • A button of Spywarenuker
    (so my brain says : Joe is a man of all trades, music and software, he is in IT)

  • An artistic 3D ovary picture
    (so my brain says : Help...)



But I know that Joe posts a comment in Quick and easy ways to make money so my Internet brain says what we all know in Internet-marketing: what does sell is:


Free, sex and protection software.


But does that mean it works for you?


It works for you when it is part of your Internet-strategy:

which is an expensive word to say:
"Your Theme".


If you have a theme and people understand your theme, then you can start selling whatever that fits into your theme. My brain would say for free, sex and protection software in the brand "Cochin" I am interested in purchasing:




  • Free music from Cochin

  • Wallpapers from Cochin babes

  • Protection software made in Cochin



Cochinsblogs: theme conclusion


As always, your blog is your deep personal creation, and like that I don't want to interfere with that. I just give my personal interpretation about the SEO and Internet-marketing point of view.


Since you start your first post with :


I propose to set up Cochin blogs as a site for guiding people to good
hospitals, diagnostic centres
and nursing homes here in Cochin. I also intend to set up pages (on this blog site) to explain sonographic techniques, images etc.,for the medical professionals and the lay person.

I would stick to this theme and post only related posts to it. Posts about Doctors do fit the theme, posts about free music, software and POPwebsites, could be easily ranked into another blog.


Cochinsblogs and making money


How can I make money with cochinsblogs if I have to remove the affiliate links to free music and software?


I know I said in a previous post: you can only make money if you start selling something. So that's rule number 1.


Now I add: I don't expect to see the fresh-eggs-selling-lady in the shopping mall selling her eggs.


Similar: selling the free music on a blog that's about hospitals and nursing homes seems like a fish out of water.


So try to sell something within your theme:



  • for affiliates: you need to spend lots of time to look for products that fit your theme, once you have these products, you are in business

  • for ad publishers: you sign up for contextual based ads: these contextual ads do the research part to fit in your theme and you are in business

How to earn 100 dollar a month?

What do people really earn on the Internet? If you know a public listed online company: you just read their annual statements: the revenue is high! But: they do have a big skilled workforce to back them up...


Be focused!


If you are a on your own, it is a different story.


You cannot expect to be a genie: you cannot be:



  • seo geniea master of SEO and

  • an incredible good salesperson and

  • a genius in writing HTML

  • and the most prominent internet marketing genie all in 1 person...


Most likely you do know a bit of everything and you love some parts more than others. Like me: I am a developer and I love to fine-tune HTML... yet fine-tuning HTML doesn't bring me any revenue!


So every second of your online business day: focus on how to get more revenue:



  • getting more visitors (read 10 Steps SEO at: Ranking high on search engine )

  • presenting more content your visitors are interested in (read more in this blog)

  • presenting content your visitors will return for (read more just below...)

Whatever you do: set a bar and try to jump over it


Cheri asked me: I do have a lot of visitors visiting my site, yet I am still far away of striking it rich...


The gray words here are:



  • a lot of visitors

  • rich


Lets tackle the "rich" first :


Lots of advertising and affiliates start paying you out when you reach 20 dollar to 100 dollar a month.


In other words:


set your bar
between 20 to 100 dollar a month in the first 6 months of your new online business.


If you set the bar too high, lot's of people just give up before they already started. It's like saying: I want to loose weight, but I want to loose 20 pounds a week... You have to go step by step and keep on stepping to be successful! Every pound gone is a pound of success. Every dollar earned is a dollar earned in success!


Now lets tackle the : "lots of visitors" :


set your bar
to reach 100 page impressions a day in the first 6 months of your new online business.


This is easier said than done, but this bar needs to be high all the time! You cannot sit back and relax when there are no visitors coming to your site.


Why start of with 100?



  • To set the bar and to be focused; you need visitors!!!

  • If you manage to get 100 visitors a day, you have a nice number to do statistics with:


if your affiliate program has the statistics conversion rate of 1%, it means that 1% of the visitors will buy the product. If you have 100 visitors a day, then each day you will sell 1 product!


So try to focus your efforts in getting at least 100 page impressions or 100 visitors a day in the beginning of your online business!


I can hear the genies amongst you saying: eh, 100 page impressions is much easier than 100 unique visitors...


Good! Whatever works for you! But:



  • set a bar you haven't reached yet and try to reach it.

  • As soon as you reach that bar, put the bar higher!

Be serious with your online business before asking!


Don't flick up a website with 3 pages and start asking them how to make lots of money in your sleep.... Be serious with your online business: have an idea what you want to do, how small or medium you are expecting your online business to be. Built up a serious website in order to show them that you mean business. Make sure you cracked your head about a few things like HTML, selling something already or making little revenue, so they have something to built on.


Too small business for a big mentor?


Get yourself a mentor-blog like the one you are reading now. Bookmark it and come back once a week for new ideas!

Too small means: you can only afford 1 hour in a month to make your online business... Or you just started out and have no clue whatsoever...


In this case, you don't bother the big mentors, but you bother the smaller ones... the ones that can help you a bit here, and others that can help you a bit there. These people you find in blogs like this one, in forums and groups. If you start participating in bogs, groups and forums, you will see that the same people will answer questions from a certain difficulty level. The more you learn, the more you get onto their level and become cyber-friends. Then you move on for more difficult questions and another group of people or blogs will start getting familiar...


Once you feel that nobody can answer your questions anymore, then you are ready again for the big mentors.


Get a mentor now!


It is just twice as easy when you can ask people for help, so you can spend your time on attracting more visitors to your online business.

When to start your online business

You only have a online business...
when you have a online business


Duh!


What I want to say is:


Start small yet start now!


start your online business


If you are new in online businesses and websites, then start from scratch. Get yourself a free website and start working!


Worldwide you can use free websites. Like me, you can use this blogger service. Or if you live in Malaysia, you can try http://www.tmnetmall.com.my: here you can sell products without worrying about bandwidth or design...


Technology doesn't bring in money!


Keep things simple!


There is simply no money to be made in learning the nerds' technologies.


Money is made by driving traffic to your site and converting it into customers and money.


Because of this, you should spend no more than 10% of your time on technology issues. The other 90% of your efforts need to be focused on traffic and conversion.


When designing your website, keep your concept simple. Focus on creating a website that is simple to navigate and where the information is logically accessible. Don't waste your time with flash, whistles and other bells... (unless that is what you are selling of course...)


Create more than 1 site if you have more than 1 product


"Familybooksandbargains" was the name of 1 of the visitors of this Quick and easy ways to make money site.


Now...



  • family books

  • bargains


You cannot promote 2 things in the same shop, unless you have a supermarket, ( and there they make sure to promote much more than only 2 items).


So focus 1 website on 1 product:



  • one website selling family books

  • one website teaching people were to find bargains


Why 2 websites? Because visitors love to browse on a website that is on topic when it comes to sales. People also love to browse on gossip site with 1001 topics, but there they browse for the fun of passing time, kind of window-shopping.


In the familybooksandbargains example: You want to convert your visitors into revenue: people wanting to buy family books, need to be focused 100% on family books. People buy books in a bookshop! People don't want to waste time in reading about bargains of all different kinds... (unless you have books on bargains, but then again we are talking books!)


We live in a fast society: give people what they expect to find, and they go away a happy customer!


What about a business plan?


I bet you read or heard about: you need a plan before you start a business. This is true! So the plan is the following:


Try part time for free and see:




  • start a free website now about your passion

  • sell affiliate products or advertising space

  • try to attract visitors (e.g. start following the step by
    step instructions on Ranking high on search engine)



Give this a timeframe (e.g. 6 months), write down the amount of effort you put into your business and evaluate the amount of revenue that comes out. If after 6 months :




  • you reach a nice revenue (100 dollar is said to be nice for a complete new part time online business),

  • you still love what you are doing



then consider a more complex business strategy for your online business (and you have 100 dollar to re-invest...)

How to learn when you earn: advertisements for the non-salesperson

Are you a non-salesperson? What is a non-salesperson? You are a non-salesperson if:



  • you hate selling

  • you hate phoning

  • you never sold anything

  • you get scared hearing the word salesperson

  • you don't know anything about grooming, marketing

  • you don't believe in the expression: the client is king


If one or all of the above applies on you, then consider yourself not a full salesperson. On the Internet, a lot of these non-salespeople end up as ad publishers.


What is an ad publisher?


It's a big sales-word :) ... It basically means you have a website, other people put their ads on your website and you earn revenue for hosting these ads.


In the early days, you needed again all sales-persons' skill in order to sell your ad-space. Nowadays, the ads come to you! At least, it is as easy as that.


How do you get ads on your site without any hassle?


There are a few "a lot of advertisements bags" out there. You kind of tell these bags:


"eh: I have some space for advertisements on my website",


and the bag says


"ok, put this HTML code on your website and tadaa, you get ads from my bag!"


In other words: There are a few big advertising guys out there like Adbrite, Adsense, Chitika, Clicksor, eBay, MSN ads, Text-Link-Ads, Yahoo ads: you look for them in your favorite search engine, go to their website, sign up for free and depending on your choice and HTML skills, you are up and running with ads on your website.


The difference amongst these "make money with advertisement services" is:



  • customer service: some you can call, some you must email and seemingly only get an electronic answer

  • payment amount: some pay out when you reach 20 dollars of revenue, others pay out when you reach 100 dollars of revenue

  • website requirements: some tell you what your website may not show, some have a look if you reach a minimum amount of visitors

  • the ads shown: some ads mimic automatically the content of your site: the so called contextual ads

  • and the type of ad-revenue...


You earn advertisement revenue when:



  • somebody follows the link of the ad you show


or



  • somebody watches the page where the ad is on


or



  • every day the ads runs on your page


Advantages of earning money with advertisements compared with affiliates


You don't have to do much prospects: as soon as you get accepted you can start adding advertisements (this can take at most 2 days before the ads really show up). After the ads show up: you can concentrate completely on improving your revenue.


Compared to affiliate revenue, advertisement revenue starts to show much faster.


Dis-Advantages of earning money with advertisements compared with affiliates


The revenue made by each ad is very very small compared to the commission you earn from affiliates. So here it is all about a big number of small revenue, where the affiliate goes for a little number of big revenues.


Which advertisement service to choose?


If you don't know where to start and you feel confident about yourself, start with Adsense: they are kind of the mother of all contextual advertisements and have the longest experience in providing you with ads that are very well related to the content of your website.


You need to know that Adsense is huge, so if you are a newbie, expect to be treated as a newbie when it comes to asking questions. Yet they do have a good newsgroup of people helping you out with a lot of your day to day Adsense questions.


If you like a more personal approach , then go for Adbrite. They are new but make up for that with having a telephone hotline.
